Overlap Magazine

Overlap is an intercultural magazine I created that explores how cultures intersect and coexist through history, diaspora, and third-culture identity.

I translated this concept into both the editorial system and the physical reading experience through a four-section flip cover, creating literal moments of overlap as readers move through the publication. This selected spread focuses on the coexistence of Japanese and American culture through the history of Amekaji fashion, a style shaped by Japan’s reinterpretation of American casual wear. By combining archival black-and-white imagery, bold red fields, and structured typography, I designed the spread to show how fashion can act as a visual record of cultural exchange over time.
